October 29, 2021, Los Angeles, California—Dr. Rosie Milligan, a literary giant, founder of Black Writers On Tour, and owner and publisher of the largest African American, woman-owned publishing house in the nation, joins Jacquelyn Thomas, a Computer Scientist, Educator, STEM Curriculum Developer, President and CEO of Girls Pursuing Science, and Executive Director and Co-Founder of Kids In Technology, Inc., to bridge the technology gap for African Americans with their new venture: My Tech Academy ?(mytechacademy.net), while residing in different parts of the country. Milligan and Thomas have one thing in common: the burning desire to bridge the technology gap for African American children and adults.

Jacquelyn states, “We do not exclude any group. However, we are driven by the known facts that African Americans lag far behind in technology. As we embark upon the technology era, I recognize the above deficiencies do not lend itself toward a good future for African American adults and children, which makes the future for economic success to become bleak and impossible to compete in a global economy. In this constantly changing high-tech world, it is our mission to empower individuals and entrepreneurs through virtual live expert-led technology training.”

Dr. Rosie states, “During the COVID-19 pandemic, people flooded my office with calls seeking help for completing applications for unemployment benefits, SBA loans, etc. My staff spent 50% of their time helping those with their technology limitations. When we offered to assist them from home, we discovered many of them did not have a computer or Internet service, and those who did were computer illiterate. When we attempted to walk them through the process, they knew nothing about a browser or how they should use it, nor a URL. Then we knew we had to have them come into our office. We required them to wear a mask and we kept safe distances. Some had to wait in their car until we could bring them in for help—this was at no cost. Many African American business owners did not have a web presence, and many were not technology savvy—COVID-19 crippled them.”

My Tech Academy help people get the skills they need to grow personally and professionally, offering an array of technology courses for the beginners and for the advanced such as: 1) Basic Computer Skills-Made Simple, 2) MS Office For Beginners, 3) Social Media and Digital Marketing for the Solopreneurs, and 4) Strategies to Monetize Your Business via Instagram, Facebook, Zoom etc.

For November 2021, My Tech Academy will offer Basic Computer Skills—Made Simple for seniors (65 and older) for free. For mor information, visit: www.mytechacademy.net..
