The Black & White Pebbles

The Black & White Pebbles

Once Upon a Time...

In a small town in south Spain, lived a businessman with his beautiful daughter. The businessman owed a large sum of money to the local loan-shark who was a gross man that always looked at the businessman’s daughter...

The loan-shark, decided to offer a deal to the businessman;

“I will erase your debt, if you will let me marry your daughter.”

The businessman quickly decline, but the loan-shark offered a new deal...

He picked up two pebbles (one black and one white) from the path he was standing on, and said to him;

“I will put those two pebble into a bag. Then your daughter will take one out. If it’s black pebble, I will erase your debt and I will marry her. But, if it’s white pebble, I will erase your debt and she won’t have to marry me at all!”

The businessman called his daughter, and while he explained her the deal, she noticed that the loan-shark took two black pebbles and put them in the bag (dramatic pause...)

Now, she had 3 options;

  1. Refuse to take a pebble out
  2. Take out both black pebbles and point the loan-shark as a fraud
  3. To take out a pebble, knowing she is doomed for bad marriage

Now, before you continue to read what she did, think for a second what would you do if you were her...

...

....

.....

She reached her hand into the bag, and “accidentally” dropped one pebble to the path which was covered in black and white pebbles, and then she said to the loan-shark;

“Sorry for dropping the pebble, but if we will look into the bag, we will certainly know which pebble I took out...”

In Real Life...

Our pebbles are not always black and white, and not always in our control.

Sometimes, we might face a problem that will require for us a unique approach to solve it, but sometimes the solution can be much simpler than we think...

Albert Einstein once said;

“Every problem has a solution, if it wasn’t so, then there will be no problem at all”

In The End,

You can make your decision simple, or complicated. But the "trick" is to make it your own decision, and not someone else decision.
