For Black History Month, Newark Public Library Hosts Forum on Prisoner Reentry
For Black History Month, the Newark Public Library presented a forum on prisoner reentry. I had the opportunity to join the forum with representatives from the community, the clergy, and former mayor Sharpe James.
The crowd of approximately 350 people viewed Ava DuVernay’s powerful documentary “13TH,” which takes an in-depth look at the American prison system and how it reveals the nation’s history of racial inequality. Following the film was a panel conversation and community feedback as to the challenges of mass incarceration and the need for supportive prisoner reentry services.
