Name? Shaunie Genus
?
Position at Conn's? General Manager
?
How long have you worked at Conn's? 1 year
?
What does Black History Month mean to you? Black History Month, to me, means birth—the mother land, the inventions we would be lost without today; it means strength and power; it means survivors.
?
How has your heritage shaped who you are today? I’m a product of two immigrant parents, so the history and heritage I was raised on was deep—it wasn’t just American history. Black history (the struggles and triumphs) was worldwide. There’s a piece of “us” everywhere.
?
What do you love most about your heritage? What I love most about my heritage is we are the blueprint—from music, art, clothing, food—there’s a high standard set for most to follow.
What advice would you give the younger generation of Black children? The advice I would give the younger generation of Black children is to be proud! Black peoples are brilliant, innovative, clever, intelligent; and no matter what shade you are, love yourself and love others. You must absolutely hold yourself to high regard and walk in that truth.
