Black History Month Game Changers

History...

More than ever, it is important to celebrate, learn and talk about Black History Month. As we approach a nearly century-old celebration of 400 years of African American culture, Black History is about much more than the freedom of enslaved, the Civil Rights Movement or the election of Vice President Kamala Harris and President Barack Obama.

Although these events are historical, they are only a part of the rich Black History in America. A much more significant component of African Americas has been building this country, physically and culturally, since its inception and we need to acknowledge it.

As a result, I want to use an opportunity to amplify Black voices as we celebrate and honor civil rights leaders and Black trailblazers for their tremendous contributions.

Today, I want to honor the words of leaders and visionaries who dedicated their lives to Black empowerment and the fight for equality.

I hope this message empowers the oppressed and inspires future generations through one of the greatest speeches ever by President Obama. It inspired and motivated me.

Today and every day, I want to call on every member of society to treat all humans with fairness, dignity and respect.

This artistic installation by Samuel Pace is profoundly moving as he addresses slavery and its many symbolic elements through his creative expression. I was lucky to meet him during my visit to LA as I attended an exhibit by many talented black artists.

One of my all-time favorite artists is Louis Armstrong. His beautiful voice reminds us that we all can have and live in a wonderful world together.

Because of Black Resistance, we witnessed the journey to equality that we are experiancing today. By resisting, African Americans continue to mobilize resources and shape social movements to create a space for Black Americans to thrive.

The path from slavery and abolition to other ongoing civil and human rights struggles can't be forgotten. Champions, join me as we honor and celebrate Black Americans today and every day.

Let's be positive game-changers as we shape new generations of leaders and create a history we are all proud of as we positively impact and change the world.
