Black History Month Colleague Spotlight: Paul Weatherly

During Black History Month, Actalent is celebrating voices, stories and experiences of our colleagues in partnership with our Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) employee resource group. Today we hear from Paul Weatherly , director of market operations. Read on to learn more about his career journey, how allies have played a role, and his advice for Black colleagues seeking career advancement.

How have allies played a role in your career?

Allies have played a major role throughout my career by supporting, developing and advocating for me in rooms that I was not in yet. These individuals have held various positions, but what was most important was that they did not give me the easy way out. They held me accountable to achieve at the highest level in whatever role I occupied in the moment.

Are there any Black leaders who have inspired you in your career?

There are a number of Black leaders that have inspired me throughout my career. The two individuals that I would recognize internally are Warren Braxton and Olakunle Arowolo . These two gentleman demonstrated excellence early in my career and paved the way for somebody like myself.

In addition, I’ve always appreciated Tony Dungy and his ability to lead his teams on the field and in life.

Do you have any advice to share with other Black colleagues looking to grow and advance in their careers?

I would give them the same advice I would give myself if I had to do it all over again. That advice would be to build relationships, be YOU, continue to develop as a professional, and find a way to perform in your current role despite the odds.
