Black History Month 2024: Reclaiming Narratives
Black History Month is a time to honour the achievements and contributions of Black People throughout history. It’s a moment to recognise struggles faced, resilience shown and the positive impact they’ve had on our world.
Each year it takes place every October in the UK. It takes part then because of Ghanaian analyst and activist, Akyaaba Addai-Sebo, who responded to the racism received from the Tottenham and Brixton riots and coordinated the first official Black History Month event on 1st October 1987.
The theme for this year 2024 is “Reclaiming Narratives ”, which focuses on recognising and correcting the narratives of Black History and Culture. It is committed to correcting historical inaccuracies and bringing the full complexity of Black heritage to light.
What is important about Black History Month?
