This Valentine’s Day it is fitting that we consider?art?and?love. There are enumerable works that seek to capture Black love on canvas. Here we are contemplating the love relationships of Black artists. Imagine the possibilities, the passions, the partnerships, the volatility. I’m sure some stories would make great reality television.
Consider that?Elizabeth Catlett’s?marriage to?Charles White?only lasted five years, while she remained married to Mexican painter?Francisco Mora?for 55 years. Sculptor?Augusta Savage?was married four times.?Romare Bearden?was married to noted dancer and choreographer?Nanette Rohan?for 34 years. Below are links to three beautiful stories of Black Art Love.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
