This week I feature a story of courage and resilience in the face of hatred, how union bagel rollers took on the mafia and machines, and more hand-picked content recommendations.
Union bagel rollers vs. the mafia
A couple of weeks ago I shared Sohla and Ham’s podcast about tacos al pastor on their limited podcast series called Deep Dish. This week in the picks I include their final episode of this series on bagels. If you’ve ever eaten a bagel, give this podcast a listen. I really hope they keep making this podcast or spin it off into a YouTube series because these were so fun, informative, and a nice break from heavier content.

The Black 14 BBC News: Amazing Sport Stories
I started to cry in the last few minutes of this series. I haven’t been moved to tears like that from a piece of content since the first time I watched The Family Stone several years ago. If you know you know.
The Black 14 is a four part series exploring the events surrounding 14 black football players who were kicked off the University of Wyoming football team in 1969.
The University of Wyoming was ranked #11 in the country headed into a huge home game against BYU. BYU at the time was being protested at football games for the Mormon church’s racist policies, and the University of Wyoming’s black football players wanted to join in on the protest—having experienced the racism of BYU firsthand in their away game at BYU the season prior.
The 14 black football players devised a plan of how they would protest—all that was needed was head coach Lloyd Eaton to sign off on their plan. Eaton was approached the night before by one of the fourteen, just to soften the blow and hopefully make the news more palatable.
What the “Black 14” encountered in their meeting with Eaton left them shocked and bewildered.
The podcast series is largely driven by interviews of the players, so you get to hear and experience all of the emotions and points of views of the players themselves.
10/10 recommend, even if you’re not a sports fan.?
