TOP OF MIND

Flexibility is a Business Decision

At Golioth, we talk a lot about flexibility, but it's easy to think that's just about making life easier for developers. The reality is, flexibility—or the lack of it—has a massive impact on your business, especially when things go wrong.?

Take hardware, for example. The early days of Golioth was during the global supply chain shortages of 2021/22, a time when companies were going out of business because they simply couldn't get the components they needed. Those who could find inventory often paid 10x the usual price or faced long lead times. If they managed to redesign with alternative parts, they often had to re-implement their cloud infrastructure too. Flexibility here isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s about mitigating supply chain risks and staying in business.

Then there's the cloud. The hyperscalers—those big cloud providers—have invested heavily in IoT over the years, but many have scaled back. While it’s convenient to use their services, you want to rely on them for what they do best: compute, storage, and AI. Companies often have specific reasons—be it technical, competitive, legal, or governmental—that dictate which cloud provider they can or want to work with. Your IoT solution should be able to route to any cloud, or even multiple, depending on where your customers are. Flexibility in cloud operations means you’re not locked into a single provider, which can be crucial for global businesses with diverse customer needs.

Finally, let's talk about innovation. The tech landscape is always shifting, with AI being the latest trend to dominate the conversation. But the solution that "solves AI" today might not be the best one tomorrow. Flexibility means you can adapt to these changes, ensuring you're always ahead of the curve, no matter what comes next.?

In short, flexibility isn’t just about making development easier; it's a strategic decision that can save your business in the long run.
