Bittersweet Parting
Leaving a job like this where you become close with people you serve and live with, and where older people become dependent upon you, is very difficult. They crave consistency and hate change, so are understandably upset that we are leaving. Some have a hard time expressing or dealing with those emotions.
It's not easy for us, either. But receiving encouraging letters like this one helps us to appreciate our time in this industry, and the privilege we've had to help people and to learn from them. A hand-written letter like this from a member of The Greatest Generation is all the praise we will ever need.
To Friends Ernie and Leslie:
There are many things, over the course of time, some small and some great. Meeting you two and working with you puts you in the “great” category.
I can appreciate your mission to move on to better things. However, it is very difficult to have you part from us.
I cannot express how grateful I am for your friendship as well as the services you have rendered to me, when it was needed, as well as to the many others you have helped here.
Yet through all of that, it never looked as if it was a chore, but a pleasure.
Here’s hoping that part of God’s creation treats you well and that people realize what a treasure you two can be to them.
If you come this way again, please come to see me.
It doesn’t matter who they get to replace you, it will not be the same.
My love, prayers and support go with you wherever He leads you, and much success.
Thanks. (Your Friend),
