The Bitcoin Conference 2024 was held in Nashville, Tennessee, also known as Music City! But for those few days, Music City Center transformed into a hub of cryptocurrency innovation for the duration of the conference. The organizers made the experience immersive, with the expo hall leading into the main presentation area and strategically placed screens displaying continuous content. I had a mindful moment during wait times, remaining engaged when I realized:

Whether talking to one another or watching the conference while in line, there was no "wasted" time.

Michael Saylor on Redefining 21st Century Economics

Saylor's presentation stood out because it was bold. He illustrated Bitcoin's role in reshaping global economics.

?The world as we know it is based on 20th century ideas and 20th century technology. Stocks trade 9:30 to 4 unless there's a bank holiday. You can't do things on the weekend. Everything is slow. Everything is expensive.? If we want to prosper in the 21st century, we need new ideas and they need to be based on new technology.?

Emphasis on "everything is SLOW." When he said this, I was reminded of my study abroad time in Bahia, Brazil, where I frequently spent 5 hours at the bank in one day. That is not hyperbole. Fast forward 18 years, I wanted to sell some of my stock on CashApp, only I couldn't because it was a Friday at 3PM Central Time. So I had to wait until Market Open. The following Monday.

Michael Saylor positioned Bitcoin as the solution to systemic issues plaguing traditional assets, describing it as the ultimate store of value in a world where wealth is constantly eroded by inflation, taxes, and other factors. Just yesterday, I made a digital transaction sending crypto to my bank account instantaneously. Minimal fees. So when Saylor argued that our current traditional financial systems are relics of the past, ill-equipped for the digital age, I did not need convincing.

He also gave us his playbook and investment strategy for how to buy Bitcoin.

Not everyone is bold enough to say an asset's value will surpass gold, but he is.

I have been torn on my favorite speech of the conference. RFK Jr. was a believer of crypto before it was used to win a vote. Edward Snowden, however, gave a speech that was downright chilling and sobering because he reminded us to never get too comfortable. He reminded us of the challenges we still face in the digital age we're living in and Bitcoin's role in the broader narrative of privacy and freedom. He claims he has been warning us for 10 years that "When they have your transaction history, they have your life history" which underscored the importance of financial privacy in the modern world.

His presence (albeit via videocall) added a layer of gravitas to the discussions around cryptocurrency's role in protecting individual rights!
