Originally described in a 2008 whitepaper by an unknown author operating under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin is a digital currency born out of distrust for the financial system and limited in its supply. The hype surrounding Bitcoin and other digital currencies has attracted both interest and nay-saying. However, behind these high-flying currencies lies a new technology and potential source of innovative disruption for the financial industry and possibly much more.
