Bit more of Devil's Lunch rewrite
I hope no-one minds my just posting stuff from the rewrite.
It has gone through a lot of work but still have the final to try and finish by end of August.
It has now moved from West Africa to the machinations of a criminal UK Defence Minister who is using a secret killing gang linked to the MOD to take out people who he feels are causing him problems but this introduces a corrupt Met Police force - bare in mind I wrote this original draft from 2006.
Deputy Commissioner Stapleton put the phone down, after yet another ear destroying call from Sir Sidney Talbot, Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
Where Sid gained his hatred for Neville Jones, he didn’t want to know.
Counting the number of calls forcing him to hound and try to make Jones react to him so they could suspend him, he found unending.
Talbot rang Bottomley–one of Talbot’s bottom fishers from when they were burying every case without a quick success rate, which led them to Jones who wouldn’t be the fall guy after they had set him up.
If he had his way, Neville Jones would end up in a hotel in Skelmersdale for the police officers no-one would use, but he had to use others to achieve it!
It was worse than a psychotic neighbour, and he had seen enough of them.
Talbot was in office as the last Government wanted, a brown-nosed ‘yes-man’ as Commissioner.
Talbot fitted anyone who needed a well-developed ‘brown tongue’ as the backsides arose, but now appeared to be running errands for some unknown guy at the PM’s ear—who funded them was not his business—Sir Nicholas Peres. Apparently the scent of the month for Talbot’s tongue.
If Peres farted they were all supposed to inhale deeply and congratulating Peres on his wind and smell to be just acceptable in political brown-nose circles.
Talbot had moved Jones to Wandsworth because he controlled it at the time and by moving other Officers out ensured that Jones was the Senior Officer and continuously harassed and it wiped his detective career out by the plumbing.
Talbot the ‘Career Control Freak’ liked to just sit there waiting for a reaction to the mental prods to force Jones to give him enough to suspend him and scrape up the past to destroy him and blame someone else for his screw-ups although Jones kept Owlie informed and even he couldn’t challenge Owlie?
But.
Talbot made sure that the only cases Jones ever saw were those that should destroy him and then kept interfering in them to cause trouble and trying to discipline him for failures he hadn’t made, but it never worked out and Talbot was becoming more insane with every failed attempt.
