A bit of escapism

A bit of escapism

I was flicking through the paper at the weekend, trying to dodge as much pandemic-related news as I could, when I hit upon an article that really grabbed my attention.

I can’t remember the exact title, but I’ll paraphrase it – it was something like “50 places you must go when you’re allowed out”.

Given that most of the newspaper content focused on vaccines and lockdown measures, it was a beautiful bit of escapism during what really has been quite a bleak midwinter.

And it got me thinking about where I’d like to go when we’re allowed to travel, as well as giving me a chance to reminisce about some of the places I’ve been in the past.

If I cast my mind back to one of my favourite holidays ever, it’d have to be the roadtrip of 2000.

Josie and I hopped in a car in San Francisco, all the way down the LA, and then across and up to Las Vegas (where we actually got married!), before heading to Arizona.

It was a 3,000-mile round trip, and was just the most incredible trip of a lifetime, with so many memories.

For me, a roadtrip really is one of the most amazing ways to see a country – you’re travelling at your own pace, stopping where you want and seeing some beautiful sights along the way.

By far my favourite road on that route was the Pacific One Highway, which we took from San Fran down to LA, all along the coast.

If you’ve not done it yet, I’d highly recommend putting it on your bucket list – maybe you could even start planning it now, and give yourself something to look forward to.

That’s exactly what I’m doing at the moment; poring over itineraries and routes to decide on my next roadtrip when we’re allowed out – if you’ve got any recommendations, just let me know!

Paul

P.S. Oh, and I’d love to know what your favourite roadtrip has been, or whether you’ve got one you really want to do – let me know.
