1 Introduction

Increasingly our world is driven by data, whether it is to improve our business processes, identify markets, or to improve the lives of our citizens. The key element of this is to make sense of well defined linkages, but also to identify those which are not so apparent. We are thus moving into an information age, where data, often provided in real-time, will drive our businesses and government services.

For example, everyone knows about the linkage between ice cream sales and  temperature, but did you know that the sales of ice creams (IC) have a stronger collaboration to the day after the hot day (lag-temp), as people rush to the shops and decide that they should stock-up for the next hot day [here]:
