BISSELL Pet Foundation's Operation Fix the Future? Clinic Spays/Neuters 643 Pets in Just Three Days
BISSELL Pet Foundation hosted another impactful Operation Fix the Future? Free Spay/Neuter Clinic to further our commitment to addressing the pet overpopulation crisis in Michigan. From October 28-30, this lifesaving clinic provided spay/neuter, vaccination, microchipping, and heartworm testing for 643 pets, including 300 dogs and 343 cats, at no cost to their owners. Held in Grand Rapids, Michigan, this collaborative, high-quality, high-volume effort brought together communities, animal welfare partners, and talented veterinarians and technicians to provide essential services that will help prevent countless unwanted litters and give pets the chance at healthier, happier lives.
A Community Effort
The success of BPF’s Operation Fix the Future was made possible through the collaboration of 14 animal welfare organizations from across Michigan. Shelters and rescues from Wayne County to Berrien County transported owned pets to Grand Rapids, ensuring families and pet owners from various regions could access these free services. This unified approach allowed BPF to support communities in need, addressing overpopulation in areas where shelters are already overwhelmed and resources are limited.
Lifesaving Impact
By spaying or neutering 643 pets in just three days, Operation Fix the Future prevented an enormous number of unwanted births, reducing the number of pets who might otherwise end up homeless or in shelters. In areas where shelters are already overburdened, these proactive efforts are essential to minimizing the risk of euthanasia due to overpopulation. Through these clinics, BPF is “fixing the future” by promoting long-term solutions to the pet homelessness crisis.
