Bishop Godfrey Mbitse Calls Upon Believers To Embrace Unity.

The Bishop of Muhabura Diocese, Rt. Rev. Godfrey Mbitse, called on Christians and people of all faiths to embrace unity and collaboration in 2025 as a means to combat sectarianism and religious discrimination in Kisoro District's political landscape.

While presiding over the Kisoro District multi-religion end-of-year 2024 and start-of-year 2025 prayers held at Shaza Grounds, Bishop Mbitse highlighted the transformative power of partnerships among different religious groups. The event was sponsored by Bufumbira East Legislator, Hon. James Nsaba Buturo, who served as the Guest of Honor.

Bishop Mbitse stressed the importance of fostering empathy and peace-building through collaborative efforts. He stated, “Collaboration breaks down stereotypes and misconceptions, strengthens social bonds, and supports peace-building efforts by bringing people from different sects together to interact and understand each other’s perspectives.”

Hon. Nsaba Buturo encouraged attendees to focus on spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical refreshment in the coming year to achieve shared goals and objectives.

Former Inspector General of Police, Rtd. General Kale Kayihura, echoed the Bishop’s sentiments, commending his leadership in advocating for unity. He criticized Kisoro’s political leaders for perpetuating divisions through sectarian politics, which he argued has hindered the district's development. Kayihura urged leaders to model unity and inspire community cohesion.

The Kisoro District Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Valence Hagumimana, urged Christians to embrace a mindset change in 2025, particularly to address the increasing cases of land-related conflicts and predatory money-lending practices.

Additionally, LC3 Chairperson for Central Division, Kisoro Municipality, Ramanthan Ndikuyeze, recognized President Museveni and religious leaders, including Bishop Mbitse, for their efforts in promoting unity within Kisoro District and across Uganda.

The event underscored the importance of interfaith collaboration as a cornerstone for building a peaceful and unified community in Kisoro. Leaders and participants alike expressed optimism for a more harmonious and progressive 2025.
