I had only just quietly crunched my way through the brittle alders, moving slow to keep my steps ginger and light a top the crisp snow. The 6 moose still lingering within the frozen wasteland beyond the brush I had just come from and the 2 eagles that had seemingly watched from their perch now soared high above. Letting out a sigh of delight as I reached the edge of the marsh I could still feel the piercing sense I was being watched. Looking over my shoulder, there sat the fierce hawk. Talons clenched tight on it’s kill our eyes met and I felt the creature could see into my soul. Its cries shattered the silence of winter as I crouched down to better get a glimpse. The familiar sound of an eagle called out and now circled and both the hawk and I looked to the sky briefly, before the hawk hopped, and took flight with catch in hand he struggled with determination and soon vanished, perfectly camouflaged within the alders.
