Birthday Greetings from the BP Marionettes Choral

In early 1964, the newly formed Marionettes Chorale gave its first public appearance at Queen’s Hall in the Music Festival of that year, and there began a relationship that has developed and lasted to today. Fifty-seven years of exciting, collaborative music-making!

The very next year we came back to Queen’s Hall for our first concert series, full of the joys of singing but with little to no experience in concert production. We needn’t have worried as we found useful, willing allies in the Hall’s management team. Since then, except when it was shuttered for renovation, we have performed there every year — many years twice!

Ours was a ringside view of its transformation from what was, in fact, Trinidad’s first community centre — a multi-purpose space — to a well-equipped, state-of-the-art theatre where we have staged many ground-breaking productions, from Orff’s Carmina Burana (in the original space) to Boublil & Sch?nberg’s Les Misérables in the new.

This year, as the Hall moves from strength to strength, we welcome a new General Manager — Mr. Garfield George. We look forward to the same close, mutually beneficial relationship as has existed all these years, and to working with him and his talented team on the continued development of the space.

Happy birthday Queen’s Hall, and abundant good wishes from your staunchest supporter!
