Birds of same feather, flock together!

Birds of same feather, flock together!

We have been using this proverb for ages for a group of people who have similar interests, enjoy working with each other. But don’t you think we all belong to a big group? Don’t you think we all are like birds?

?? ???????? ???????????? ??????????????, ?????? ?????? ???? ???????????????? ??????????????. ????????’?? ?? ?????????? ???????? ???? ???????? ?????????? ??????????????!

So, to start with, the meaning of this proverb is that birds, animals wander and live in their own groups only. Whereas humans are different, they have the wisdom and knowledge to choose the company of their own choice to suit their own taste and attitude. But I beg to differ!

Personally, I think, humans are a large group of birds who have the same feathers, like to flock together but are separated into sub-groups due to various external factors, for instance, profession. Birds don’t need to worry about the profession. They are aware of their priorities that are food, group/family, and shelter. Though that is the priority for humans as well, we have moved way past these three.

According to Abraham Maslow, a renowned American psychologist, in his 1943 paper ‘A Theory of Human Motivation’ pitched that humans needs/motivation generally move in five stages:

  •  Physiological (food, water, warmth, rest)
  • Safety (Security, safety)
  • Belongingness & love (relationships, friends)
  • Esteem (prestige, the feeling of accomplishment)
  • Self-Actualization (achieving one’s full potential)

If you carefully observe every single stage mentioned above, you will notice first three stages are common for us and birds or for that matter animals. It’s the last two stages that talk about accomplishment, achieving potential where we differ from them. For me, these are the stages that define our professional life and so far, my experience says, we love to work with people who have similar tastes, interests but we are also easily adaptable if interests differ.

The crux of the whole article is “???? ?????? ?????? ?????????? ?????????? ???????? ?????????????? ?????????????? ?????????????? ???? ?????????????????? ?????? ???????????? ???????? ???????? ???????????????????? ??????????’?? ????????????, ???? ??????????, ???? ??????????”
