Birds of a Feather Hunt Together.

Remember this (from here)?

  • The dinosaurs on the left of the continuum didn't keep up with their changing world and died out.
  • The dinosaurs on the right jumped off cliffs to see how high up they were, and died.

But, see those dinosaurs in the swirlying mass of black arrows and scibbled circles in the middle?

They evolved and their ancestors turned into birds.

Birds of a feather.

And they flock together.

Especially when they feel threatened by the lonely looking CorkScrew Thinker represented by the red-arrow

--

A few months ago my wife and I were out for a drive when she suddenly said, "Pull over."

I did as she said and then she pointed out the front window of the car off into the distance.

There was a hawk.

It was being chased by a flock of tiny birds, maybe sparrows, I couldn’t tell.

Shoutout to Patrick Boucher on upslash

We watched for 2 or 3 minutes as the flock chased and chased and chased the hawk.

They didn't attack it directly.

They wore it out.

One moment if was flying, the next ... it stopped flying and literally fell out of the sky.

Straight down. Like a brick.

I did not expect that.

--

Maybe the hawk just wanted to help the sparrows? Maybe it just wanted to be friends? Maybe it wanted to eat one of them. Who knows?

The sparrows didn't care.

They saw it as a threat.

And - as a flock - they got rid of the threat.

Wanna know the biggest difference between a CorkScrew Thinker and a CorkScrew Leader?

Both come up with equally brilliant ideas, but the leader is viewed as a helper, not a threat.

It’s a great analogy. Some work cultures exist in relative isolation from change. They grow in their own ways. Even past success can be an isolator. It is the role of leadership to first prevent organizations from this happening, by always driving a learning and improvement mindset, centred in the clients if today and of tomorrow. Else, it’s their role to approach change in constructive ways not to risk loosing v. Inertial resistance.
