Once upon a time, there was an old lady who lived alone in her house.
One day she got tired of her loneliness and the quiet she was surrounded with all day. So, she decided she would go to the market and get a parrot. She thought she could talk to the parrot, the bird would talk back, and there would be some conversation or sounds in the house.
She got excited went to the market and got a parrot. In a bid to make the bird's homecoming extra special, she shopped for the most beautiful golden cage for the parrot.?
She brought the parrot in the golden cage home and did everything every day to keep the golden cage sparkly clean and smelling nice.?
But the bird died in 7 days.?
Any guesses why?
The old lady was so obsessed with keeping the golden cage clean that she forgot to feed the parrot.
We are no different.?
We get busy with the pursuit of the external and forget to feed the soul that resides within.?
In different life contexts, we have different preoccupations. As adults, we are consumed with keeping the body clean, fit, and nourished, keeping our houses modern and up to date, maintaining our social status, and in our tech-first world, our social media grids clean, aesthetic, and in-trend.?
Amidst all this we pay no heed to the spirit within us, we ignore the spirit that makes us who we are - until layers of dust settle over it and we almost forget its existence within us.
Time to introspect if we are taking care of only the external cage or are also feeding the bird in the process.?

As we reflect on our many accomplishments in 2023, let's also take a moment to reflect on?
??who we were through the year,?
??how we honoured the spirit in us, and?
??what activities fulfilled us from within?
Maybe even commit to allow more room for expression of our truest spirit.
It doesn't have to be time-consuming. We can find small pockets to do that one thing daily that feeds and nurtures this unique spirit in us.
It is scary to be our fiercest selves, but we owe it to ourselves to try.
What are some ways you keep the spirit within you alive?
