The push for overtime pay rights gained momentum following a comprehensive examination of the American freight industry by the Biden administration in February 2022. In the wake of this examination, Congress received a recommendation to include overtime pay rights for drivers. Subsequently, a Democratic lawmaker proposed a bill in April 2022 to secure overtime pay for truck drivers. Unfortunately, that particular bill faced obstacles and did not progress through the legislative process.
In the latest bipartisan effort, two Democratic senators and two House representatives have joined forces to advocate for the bill. However, the road to success is not without challenges. Currently, control of Congress is divided, with Republicans holding the majority in the House, while Democrats lead the Senate.
