Bipartisan Bulletin: Sowing Seeds for a Farm Bill Harvest
The sun is shining, flowers are blooming, and spirits are high—spring has arrived! It is the perfect season to appreciate the natural beauty of our environment, and to protect it. This year, Congress has an opportunity to do just that by prioritizing the resilience of our landscapes, food systems, and rural economies in the 2023 Farm Bill. The Bipartisan Policy Center’s?Farm and Forest Carbon Solutions Task Force?is sowing the seeds of practical policy so that America can reap the rewards when the Farm Bill is passed.?
The Task Force produced a set of guiding principles and recommendations, which former Senators?Saxby Chambliss?(R-GA) and?Heidi Heitkamp?(D-ND), Task Force co-chairs, outlined in?this letter. They highlight 12 priorities that would support American farmers, ranchers and forest landowners in their efforts to conserve and sustain our vital natural resources.?
In this year’s Farm Bill, Congress has the opportunity to take a comprehensive, national approach to natural climate solutions such as carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions reductions in agriculture and forests. If implemented well, these strategies can advance global climate goals and enhance the long-term productivity and resilience of farm and forest lands and our rural communities.??
With this critical legislation, we have the chance to support our farmers, ranchers, and rural communities while also protecting the environment. Please reach out if you would like to learn more about how BPC develops?practical policy to preserve America, the beautiful.
