Bipartisan Bulletin: New Captain, Same Strategic Strength
Welcome to the Bipartisan Bulletin
Hello from BPC, where democracy gets to work! We begin 2023 under the inspiring leadership of? Kelly Veney Darnell , Interim CEO. Guided by her bold strategic vision, we will continue to transform partisan disagreements into bipartisan solutions. Now more than ever, it is important to build a thriving America powered by an effective government. With the confident support of our friends and partners, we can propel the Bipartisan Policy Center to new heights in 2023.?
Last year marked our 15th anniversary, and one of the most successful years for bipartisan leadership. We mobilized more than 85 bills that were introduced or passed committee, and advanced 24 bills that were enacted or passed a chamber. Among these, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act has a massive potential for positive impact. This $550 billion investment will connect communities, reduce carbon emissions, and promote economic growth—supporting more than 770,000 new jobs each year. Going forward, I hope that Congress can maintain this bipartisan momentum to drive progress on the issues that matter most.?
From addressing our #DebtCrisis to supporting the production of more #AffordableHousing, BPC will continue to work with people from both parties to accomplish valuable and durable results for every American. We are fueled by an unrelenting commitment to our mission, and steered by a daring and dynamic new captain. Our “Bipartisan-Ship” is forging full steam ahead towards a productive 2023.
Solution Spotlight: About America's Debt Crisis
America Must Meet Financial Obligations In Full & On Time. President Biden signed legislation that raised the federal debt limit to approximately $31.4 trillion. On January 19, 2023, the Treasury Department ran up against this limit and exhausted its borrowing authority. If Congress does not extend the debt limit, Treasury will no longer be able to meet all its financial obligations in full and on time, which could lead to disastrous consequences for the country.
BPC and BPC Action are working to end the cycle of dangerous conflict and ensure Congress engages in constructive debates over the nation’s deficits and debt. Learn more about BPC's Debt Limit Analysis from our experts.
