Now for this week's newsletter!

I'm officially a dual citizen ????

Born and raised in Minnesota, I speak English as a native language and was born a US citizen.

I learned German through my studies in Austria and am learning Korean through my wife who's from South Korea.

Now, I need to find the time to learn Luxembourgish and French because I'm officially a citizen of Luxembourg! (The 3 official languages of Luxembourg are Luxembourgish, French, and German.)

How to build a personal brand that sets you apart in biotech ??

Just. Start. Posting!

I know, easier said than done, so here's the process I recommend to anyone getting started on LinkedIn.

After setting your profile up, it's mainly a matter of staying consistent with commenting, connecting, and posting.

Tierra Biosciences raises $11.4M series A to expand designer protein-to-order platform ??

"Traditional protein engineering using living cells is slow, inefficient, and data poor.

Tierra's cell-free protein production platform will change the game, powering our customers’ discovery efforts with rapid access to large numbers of discrete custom proteins for screening and discovery, plus fast yield scale-up for downstream development and pilot work."

Insightful words from Tierra CEO Michael Nemzek .

New job to be announced on April 15th ??

I'll be dropping some hints over the next 2 weeks.

I've even dropped a couple hints already actually!

Stay tuned for the big announcement on April 15th.

Here's the teaser in the meantime: linkedin.com/posts/jeffbissen_newjob-businessdevelopment-biotechdiaries-activity-7179498339929870337-uXkm

Hot spots for biotech in the US ????

Previously, I ran a poll about the best cities for biotech in the Northeast.

Boston was the clear winner, followed by New York, Philadelphia, and Washington DC.

Now, I'm asking about states outside of the Northeast and the West Coast.

The poll is open for 3 more days, so cast your vote here: linkedin.com/posts/jeffbissen_biotechnology-pharma-biotechdiaries-activity-7179849278104707072-3Gkr

Vaccines don't cause autism ??

It's amazingly frustrating how much damage 1 fraudulent paper in 1998 caused to the general public's understanding of vaccines.

There's simply no connection between vaccines and autism.

Even if they did somehow cause autism, would you rather have an autistic child or one who died from an easily preventable infection?

For a fantastic visual representation of this, I highly recommend the link in the comments of this post: linkedin.com/posts/jeffbissen_vaccines-autism-biotechdiaries-activity-7180175355452764161-4jF2

This week's guest post: Brian Krueger, PhD ??

Brian Krueger, PhD posts amazing summaries of fascinating research publications.

This week, he describes how the authors of the featured paper were the first to establish stable cultures of human fetal cells from 3 different regions of the central nervous system: dorsal forebrain, central forebrain and spinal cord.

They showed that these distinct cellular populations could maintain their identity indefinitely and would only differentiate into more mature compositions when switched to a maturation media.
