Biopharma & Life Sciences Connected Conference
Some excellent sharing on talent retention activities being undertaken by the industry panel from Lilly, EirGen and BioPharmaChem Skillnet IBEC participants at the BioPharma & Life Sciences Connected Conference today at the Radisson Little Island Cork. We are still in a candidate led market across most disciplines in the sector, so that attraction and retention are critical for companies. The employer brand and communbication both externally and also for internal employees is vital to ensure that companies are seen as a destination of choice and more improtantly that people stay and grow. The job for life is not relevant to Millennials or Gen Z employees and they are asking what the employer can do for them. This will involve growth options, education, well-being support, flexibility, D&I and sustainability. It is no longer just about the job but the whole surrounding infrastructure that is relevant.
Companies must help the new hire to integrate and belong (no longer just fire the training manual at them!) and the leadership team must continually engage to ensure that they have the finger on the pulse. Talent management has to be a core element of the senior team's strategic direction. Reverse mentoring on areas such as social media and brown bag informal lunches can be some simple tools to use, as well as dedicated L&D budgets to enhance capabilities. Industry collaboration with academia is also important to tailor the right graduates and post graduate offerings. Tell and live the right story and you get and retain the right people. #careerwiserecruitment
