Biometan in Ukraine
Biomethane, also known as renewable natural gas, is a sustainable energy source that is gaining popularity in Ukraine. Biomethane is produced through the anaerobic digestion of organic waste, such as agricultural residues, food waste, and animal manure. The resulting biogas is then upgraded to a higher quality, which can be used in a variety of applications, including transportation and heating.
In Ukraine, the use of biomethane is still in its early stages, but the government has recognized its potential as a clean energy source and has taken steps to encourage its development. In 2019, the Ukrainian parliament passed a law that requires natural gas suppliers to blend biomethane into their supplies, starting with a 5% blend in 2020 and increasing to 10% by 2025.
There are currently a number of biomethane projects in development in Ukraine, including biogas plants and biomethane upgrading facilities. These projects are being supported by both domestic and international investors, and are expected to contribute to Ukraine's goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix.
Overall, the development of biomethane in Ukraine has the potential to provide a sustainable source of energy while also addressing issues such as waste management and agricultural sustainability. With the government's support and the interest of investors, it is likely that biomethane will play an increasing role in Ukraine's energy future.
