Even though the brain is an immune-privileged organ, it communicates with immune cells and vice-versa. The disruption of this communication can lead to several neuroimmunological disorders. Science has advanced several frontiers in this direction, therefore neuroimmunology has emerged as an established discipline on its own.
My friend and collaborator Tanima is a well-recognized scholar in this field, from whom I have learned some bits of it. Since I am more comfortable in Bioinformatics, we proposed a research topic (or a special issue) on Bioinformatics contribution to the detection and analysis of neuroimmunological diseases, which was finally cross-listed in three frontiers journals, namely Frontiers in Genetics, Frontiers in Neuroscience, and Frontiers in Neuroinformatics.
It's of no surprise that we received an over-overwhelming response to this topic. Out of 18 outstanding contributions, 8 manuscripts made it to the final cut.
In terms of other impact matrics, the topic has been read by 30,000 scholars so far from all across the globe.
Its been quite a learning experience for me and a very special feeling to realize how Bioinformatics could connect dots in diverse disciplines.
I encourage you all to go through the research topic and share your thoughts in the comments.
