I had the pleasure of visiting the Salesforce Tower in Dublin, Ireland, on their Innovation Day. There was plenty of great content, and I saw fantastic demos involving Slack, Stripe and Salesforce. It is an amazing combo to serve customers well. I want to talk a little about the Salesforce Tower itself because it is a fascinating, award-winning building that focuses on forward-thinking sustainability. It is the most sustainable building in Dublin, in fact!
It's all about the bees
The bee is more honored than other animals, not because she labors, but because she labors for others. - St. John Chrysostom
Bees have an essential part to play in maintaining our planet. We need them to pollinate the food we need to survive. Other wildlife depends on bees, too, since bees help pollinate many trees and flowers that, in turn, provide habitats for much other wildlife.
Bees are so easy to overlook, and it is crucial to look after them. So I'm happy that the Salesforce Tower has made space for a biodiverse roof with native plants, solar panels, and pollinators. Over time, the Tower roof will house bee hives and approximately 80,000 bees, making a positive difference to Dublin and the surrounding location. Here are some bee-friendly flowers in a flower bed at the top of Salesforce Tower. It's just a lovely place to be and to work!

Biodiversity is top (of the building!)
You might think Dublin is rainy, but it is surprisingly sunny today! The roof itself uses a water-efficient drip irrigation system. In addition, the building roof contains a multi-layer diverse selection of native planting, including poppies, lavender, Cotoneaster, and sage. Poppies are my favorite flower, so I'm glad they are there. Poppies are so fragile and bloom for such a short time, but they give us such a wonderful blaze of colour when they appear.?
The interior of the building is a wonderful place to work, and I'm currently surrounded by nature in all sorts of forms. I love this table, which has a resin feature with flowers. The flowers are on a spectrum, ranging from plants in the deep sea through to the mountain top. Take a peek below:
Even the coffee bar is gorgeous - look at this bar top and the tiles in the background, also made from recovered materials! You would never guess, right?
The building itself is very well thought-out. The building has won a Nearly Zero Energy Building and Zero Carbon Certificate, and you can check out this post to learn more. The building itself is all-electric, and it is powered by 100% renewable energy.?
It was my privilege to be here today and I look forward to seeing how the roof blooms throughout the year. I look forward to Salesforce posting more pictures throughout the year!

1 年How beautiful! I'm glad you shared this, and especially the photos. You might know this already, but Sean and I kept bees (Langstroth hives) in our backyard when we were in Texas. And we're thinking about starting up again in Colorado!
