Is Bing Going to Replace Google?
Is Google being replaced?
?Lately, there has been a buzz around the topic of AI and the increase of AI-powered software we’ll be seeing more of in 2023. This really started, when Open AI introduced ChatGPT, which is an AI system that is essentially a highly capable chatbot. People have been using chatGPT and testing out exactly what its capabilities are, from coding to movie plots, ChatGPT is being treated like a new search engine that will deliver tailored information rather than having to scroll through links.
That is exactly what the idea is behind what Microsoft is supposedly going to do with the Bing search engine. Pairing Bing and ChatGPT to create a search engine that is focused on delivering a response directly to what you asked rather than being presented with a list of links based on ranking and keywords.
It is speculated that this will be announced by the end of March, If this update takes place it could mean that Google has a strong competitor, could Google be replaced as the most popular search engine after 23 years?
You may be wondering how all of this transpired, it may have been in the making for many years. Starting in 2019, when Microsoft invested $1 billion in Open AI.
They have been working with Open AI which focused on creating an AI that understands human language and can generate human-like text in response. Open AI has defined Chat GPT as ‘ChatGPT is a chatbot launched by Open AI in November 2022. It is built on top of Open AI’s GPT-3 family of large language models and is fine-tuned with both supervised and reinforcement learning techniques.’ Their description reinforces the belief that the reason ChatGPT was so well received is that it is unlike our understanding of how to use Google – where typically we will try and write in a way to bring up the correct responses. ChatGPT is a lot more capable of understanding the context behind what we are saying and producing the exact material we are looking for, in seconds with minimal errors.

It doesn’t stop there with Bing’s new integration of AI, In October Microsoft published an article detailing how Open AI’s DALL-E 2 will also be used for Bing as an image generator.
However, despite all of this exciting news and upcoming updates. It’s important to note that Google also has similar language models to ChatGPT, for example, LaMDA.?LaDMA is an acronym for Language Model for Dialogue Models, whilst the functionality might not be the same as ChatGPT, it is used to understand what exactly users are searching for.
It is also important to note that the CEO of Open AI stated in a tweet, ‘it is a mistake to be relying on it for anything important right now.’
It isn’t clear how Bing exactly plans to integrate AI into their search and if that will be a new way of searching or if Google will truly have competition.?
