Bing AI, history in the making?
Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft launched Bing AI .
As you might have heard, Microsoft invested USD 10bn in OpenAI's ChatGPT and also provided the infrastructure via Microsoft Azure Cloud to OpenAI and since made a deal to get exclusive access to OpenAI's ChatGPT. Microsoft now seems to beat Google at implementing it into it's Bing AI and the beta waiting list is open now.
In the meantime late in December 2022 Google issued a code red and now puts their strict AI guidelines policy on a back seat in order to launch it's own Google Bard Apprentice AI as fast as possible. Bard is based on their LaMDA LLM which is comparable in parameter size to GTP-3 and GPT-3.5 which is used in ChatGPT.
The AI war was long ongoing behind closed doors and before it went viral with generative AI models such as BERT, GPT, DALL-E, MusicLM, StableDiffusion etc., but is now in the open, as corporates like Alphabet and Microsoft are in a race to release what they can. For Microsoft it's a way to increase Search market share with bing, while for Alphabet it's a race to stay relevant and secure their business model. Finally some competition in the online search business.
Now don't get fooled by ChatGPT's abilities due to it's viral launch: There are a dozen Large Language Models out there, some newer and some older than what ChatGPT is based on. A hand full of those are way more powerful than what you have seen with ChatGPT. As you can see on the model card of Lifearchitect (Dr. Thompson), there are vastly bigger LLMs (Large Language Models) out there than what OpenAI uses in ChatGPT and Google uses in Bard and several of them even perform better on standardized tests. What makes ChatGPT and Bard special is the human feedback used for Reinforcement learning and the additional fine tuning on a chat like behaviour, compared to just general language tasks such as rephrasing, paraphrasing or generation of text.
