BIM Show Live 2020 Presentation

BIM Show Live 2020 Presentation

In response to numerous requests, I have quickly produced a narrated version of my BIM Show Live 2020 presentation.

This presentation was focused on answering the following questions:

  1. What was our intended journey (Delivering whole life cycle approach to BIM / BIM Level 2 / BIM to PAS1192-2 & ISO 19650-2 process)
  2. How has the journey progressed
  3. Where are we in our journey
  4. How can we manage our progress and main barriers
  5. How do we need to improve

Thank you, John. After working with Facilities Managers for many years and providing a lot of information to enable them to manage their facilities I am disheartened to hear of your experience once you managed to get the BIM export equation sorted. You are correct in suggesting that there should be a re-focus on the client bodies and in getting them to understand the value of good FM information - stage 1,2 and 5. It is not as if the value of having good information is debatable! The other aspect is that when contracts are handed on from one FM contractor to the next the data goes 'missing' and another re-survey is called for, another waste of public monies. Maybe COBie should become the default handover format in that case as well - obviously with a reduce scope targeted at only Operations and Management essentials.

Always found John's view as pragmatic and not just going with the flow there is a long way to go.

Thank you John Ford, excellent pragmatic and honest overview of the evolution of BIM in the UK and the lack of benefits realisation; which is regrettably being replicated in Australia.? There has been excellent work undertaken in particular by Transport for NSW and the Victorian Government but I am still concerned that the benefits of BIM and Digital Engineering will suffer the same fate as your data handover. Why, because whenever I speak to the BIM groups in Australia (that are really influencing the owners) I always ask who in the Audience are from Design and Construct and who are from O&M / FM. Across?#MelBiM, #BrisBIM and #SydBIM last year, approx 1% if the audience were from the O&M side. In Aus we similarly see the Owners asking the Supply side to write the EIR, and the owners are now being recommended by Consultants to focus on the Design and Construct only and leave the O&M / FM until later!? Its hard to see how owners can ever achieve a reduction in the total cost of asset if #assetmanagement / #facilitiesmanagement is not sitting at the table. Seeing the low numbers of good EIR's you have seen I dread to ask if you have seen any good Asset Information Requirements (AIR)?
