It has been quite some time since I last updated you on BIM. I suggest changing the frequency of my updates to at least once every few weeks or once a month. We will see how that goes. For now, I would like to share with you what has happened in the world of BIM over the past few weeks.
Let's start with the already widely-discussed new instrument for Revit TopoSolid. Daniel Stine, AIA, IES, CSI, CDT, Well AP Stine provided a detailed explanation of it.

The team at BIM Corner has published a highly intriguing article. It discusses how, when working with 3D building models (BIM models), we sometimes encounter models with very peculiar properties and wonder about their purpose and why they are present in our model. I am not sure whether my readers have seen the development roadmap for GRAPHISOFT ArchiCAD, but I would like to share it just in case. It is pleasing to see that the developer is transparent about their future plans and shares them with the user community. Read more

Veras ( EvolveLAB ) is now available on macOS in conjunction with SketchUp. The use of AI for rendering is becoming increasingly closer to reality. It is intriguing to ponder how far we are from a time when high-quality renders can be produced on a MacBook Air with ease. Read more

Kateryna Konieva, Ph.D. , in collaboration with Speckle , has published an excellent article on how to insert a hand-drawn base map into Rhinoceros Software SAS (or any other software) with accurate units of measurement and in the correct location. They utilize QGIS and Speckle to achieve remarkable results.
Kean Walmsley is congratulating his former colleague and the Tandem team for integrating core IoT-centric capabilities in their production digital twin offering. This is a big day for Autodesk Research, and he's excited about it. He also mentions that the Tandem Beta community has likely provided helpful feedback for the feature. Read more
Gavin Crump is discussing solar analysis in Revit in great detail, explaining that Rhino/Grasshopper/Ladybug is the best way to do it and advising against using Dynamo. He goes through the setup of the Revit model, exporting and importing to Rhino, filtering rooms, testing surfaces, managing bottlenecks, generating testing geometry, analyzing the sun path and rotation, processing the results, and comparing two studies. He also covers how to return the results to Revit.
Jeffrey A. Pinheiro, AIA A. Pinheiro is discussing a step-by-step method for creating notched wood columns in Revit, which can be used for various structures, such as wooden decks or heavy timber framed buildings.
Jeremy Tammik is in Nice, France attending the APS cloud accelerator along with another one in Medellin, Columbia. He has installed Revit 2024 and compiled the SDK samples. He also mentioned a new release of RevitLookup with new features. Additionally, he talks about a visual introduction to machine learning. Read more
