BIM NEWS - 21.05.23
Welcome, dear reader, to my weekly journal. Today, I have a lot of news for you. The week has been abundant with information from the world of #AI . But don't worry, I also have information from the world of #BIM for you.
Don't forget to repost and like. This way, you're helping me with promotion and reach.
AI
Let's start with some news about or related to AI technologies. The first piece of information is about Generating 3D Models.
OpenAI ?Announces?#Shap -E, a Neural Network Capable of Generating 3D Models. OpenAI unveils Shap-E, an AI model capable of converting text descriptions into 3D objects. An upgrade from its predecessor, Point-E, Shap-E operates faster and leverages 'implicit functions' to create detailed 3D models from 2D images. While the current models may seem simplistic, the potential of this technology for applications like 3D printing is immense.
Here is the news:
Transforming a sketch into a 3D scene with?Blockade Labs . All you have to do is make a rough sketch, then write down what it's supposed to be, and you get a ready-made skybox.Stable Diffusion API
You can try it for free in your browser. Here's the link:
They are introducing?Gyre.ai , a free editor equipped with neural networks.
With just a few clicks, it can remove backgrounds, adjust lighting, create 3D models and apply textures to them, replace selected areas with others, work with vector images, and much more. Plus, projects can be exported to?Adobe ?Photoshop.
The usage is free, and the source code is open. So, could you give it a try?
Revit + API
Daniel Stine, AIA, IES, CSI, CDT, Well AP has released the first of three free courses on YouTube titled "Remodels and Alternates in Revit MEP". The course, aimed at Revit MEP users, offers insights that could benefit all Revit users. It includes 21 videos, spanning 2 hours, a PDF handout, and several required/resource files. Key topics include managing view settings for multi-model projects using phasing and design options. There are also sample files available for download to follow along. Here is the link

Enscape for Revit 2024 is Now Available
In her new post, Gemma Da Silva announces the availability of Chaos Enscape for Revit 2024. She highlights the update's real-time visualization capabilities to the design workflow, such as more realistic mirror reflections, indirect lighting, and improvements to orthographic views. Instructions are provided for both existing #enscape customers to upgrade and for new users to understand its function. Da Silva emphasizes the simultaneous design, #rendering , and #visualization process in #Revit and the automatic synchronization feature between Revit and Enscape, facilitating efficient project design and visualization.
Aligning Elements, Finding and Visualising Wires
In his new post, Jeremy Tammik explores two main issues regarding electrical wires and element alignment in design software. He reviews a solution by Luiz Luiz Henrique Cassettari for retrieving electrical wires within a bounding box when traditional methods, such as BoundingBoxIsInsideFilter, fail. He also discusses the limitations of filtered element collectors with regard to wire geometry. The other recurring topic is element alignment, a constant question when defining constraints in these environments. Finally, he encourages readers to consider alternative methods for dealing with these challenges.
Dynamo Core 2.18 Release
Helena Wahlstr?m 's latest post unveils the Dynamo Core 2.18 release, packed with numerous enhancements and features:

BIM Model Data Validation
In his new post, Konrad Fugas ( BIM Corner ) discusses the importance of #bim model data validation. He highlights that while early clash detection is essential, the digitalization of design goes beyond just identifying clashes. Fugas emphasizes the need for correct data in order to regain control over the construction process. The post covers various aspects of data validation, including object basic data, design data, project management data, and checking external data. Fugas provides examples of checks that can be performed to ensure data accuracy, such as verifying correct categorization, adherence to naming conventions, and the use of agreed-upon object types. The post is part of the Data Management in BIM series and aims to help readers understand the potential of data validation in improving construction processes. Here is the link
Is Revit Preventing Digital Construction? with H?vard Vasshaug
In his latest video, Nicolas Catellier discusses the insights shared by H?vard Vasshaug regarding the limitations of Revit and other BIM software in enabling efficient digital construction. Havard Vasshaug questions whether we should eliminate traditional drawings and solely rely on BIM models as deliverables for construction projects. The discussion delves into the challenges and potential benefits of this approach.
Modeling Curved Site Walls in Revit, with Nehama Shechter
In his new video, Nicolas Catellier and Nehama Shechter-Baraban demonstrate using the Environment plugin for Revit to model curved side walls.
