Sova3D Platform for City Information Modeling
Lachmi Khemlani's article covers the progress in City Information Modeling (CIM) using Finland's Sova3D platform. Developed by Sova3D Oy and initiated by Petri Kokko in 2015, the platform aids urban planning and management. In Finnish cities, it's known as Kunta3D and includes features for online building permitting. Sova3D Oy has collaborated with Terrasolid for 3D modeling and Cloudpermit for permit processes. The service combines multiple data sources for comprehensive 3D city models, which support project review and integrate live digital twins for smart city functions. Finnish cities like J?rvenp?? are using Kunta3D for effective city model interaction and permit evaluations, with the "Tammela Stadion" project in Tampere demonstrating its potential. The implementation of Sova3D signifies CIM's ability to revolutionize urban planning and management towards smart city development worldwide.
Sharing Civil 3D Cloud Project Files with Internal & External Stakeholders!
Jeff Bartels s discussed Autodesk Construction Cloud's content exchange for construction professionals, highlighting informal and formal file-sharing methods to improve stakeholder collaboration. He detailed an easy file-sharing platform for project managers and the Transmittals feature for structured documentation. Bartels recommended watching the session recording for more on streamlining content-sharing and promised additional Autodesk tips for efficient project management.
Model validation as a key step in the BIM workflow
Paola Bronzo 's article for BIM Corner highlights the increasing importance of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the construction and design sector. She discusses how BIM is becoming legally required in parts of Europe and its significant impact on streamlining project workflows. Bronzo explains that BIM aids in coordinating design teams, sharing files, and maintaining quality control, extending its utility beyond design to facility management post-construction.
The article also explores automated model checking within BIM, emphasizing tools like Solibri, Inc. Office for IFC model validation and code compliance. Moreover, Bronzo introduces the Information Delivery Specification (IDS), a new standard designed to enhance data exchange and ensure project compliance.
She predicts a future where structured validation processes and technologies like IDS will streamline building permit processes and make code compliance more efficient. The piece underscores the growing significance of BIM in enhancing compliance, efficiency, and innovation within the construction industry.
Chaos Unboxed Live Recapped
Gemma Da Silva reported on Chaos's 2024 updates from Chaos Unboxed Live. Highlights include AI-enhanced tools for creative fields, a new module in Chaos Enscape for real-time energy efficiency assessments, and major updates for V-Ray users, including V-Ray for Blender. There will also be a new storytelling platform for animated presentations, a chat-driven material creation feature in the Chaos Cosmos library, and a new platform for real-time 3D design collaboration. Additionally, the Chaos AI Lab is introducing AI-based stylized visualization options in Enscape, aiming to enhance artistic flexibility.
Intersecting VASA's visibility cones with the surroundings inside Forma
Kean Walmsley y recently updated on his work with the VASA inside Autodesk Forma prototype while in the mountains. He's been focused on integrating visibility cones into the proposal building to assess views, ensuring they intersect correctly with surrounding geometry. The project aims to provide accurate visual assessments from buildings using visibility voxels.
Initially, Walmsley faced challenges with the intersections, but with advice from voxel expert Rhys Goldstein, he improved the method by expanding voxels horizontally and vertically for better accuracy. This adjustment not only fixed the issue but also added a unique visual feature indicating the assessed window.
The updated approach has been successful, allowing for clear visibility intersections across different buildings, such as one on the Las Vegas Strip, by clicking on the "Views" text. The project, enhancing user-friendliness and employing voxels for view evaluation in architectural design, shows promising developments and potential for future applications.
