BIM Level 2 Moving Towards ISO 19650-1 & 2

I have worked with the construction industry for the last 25 years. However it is in the last 5 years that I have seen the industry begin a transformation from paper based processes into the digital world.

Some organisations have embraced these changes and others have talked about it. The UK Government however, has put its money and buying power behind BIM. I can clearly see that this gives many companies massive opportunities around the world. The very fact that ISO has started their process into making BIM Level 2 an International Standard is yet another major step forward in this new Construction Era.

I however, have two Issues:

1)     More clients need to embrace and understand the new world of BIM to make great use of all this new information. A lot more work is needed here from Government to help with Education.

2)    Small to medium size organisations are NOT engaging with BIM in the same ways as the Large Main Primary Contractors. What this creates is a two-tier Industry and even more than that is a situation that it restricts the growth of these types of companies over the next 10-20 years. If you consider that 80% of the industry is made up of SME’s, everyone needs to make a bold step forward.

Before anyone says I don’t understand, all these Standards revolve around CHANGE and spending MONEY.

Many SME’s look at Dropbox / SharePoint / Share file etc etc as their method of sharing documents but BIM Level 2 is so much more!!! For SME’s to make changes within their organisations then this will require significant investment in training for all their staff. Combine this with new technology that looks at the building industry with all it’s unique requirements and then and only then will change start to occur for the SME.

We at Sherlayer have invested heavily to provide part of the new CDE technology needed for the SME Section of the market. This Technology is there to compete both in ease of use and costs with the above-mentioned products but focused on Construction Industry, whether you be a Client / Architect / Structural Engineer/ M & E or SME Main Contractor

Sherlayer is a CDE for BIM Made Simple and our core USP is to bring a SIMPLE LOW COST CDE for BIM to SME’s .

To let companies view this technology we have created a whole range of new YouTube videos.

So please just visit our website and request the new videos.
