BIM to BEM using free open source tools
A few weeks ago, the #BlenderBIM Add-on was updated with a number of features that make it easier to find an efficient workflow between BIM and building energy simulations (BEM). The most important features that I found was:
-??????? A complete overhaul of the interface. As you might know the BlenderBIM Add-on is a free and open-source plugin for Blender. Blender itself is far from trivial to use and adding BlenderBIM on top of Blender did not make it easier. With this update it is easier to tell them apart and it is also much easier to find the features you are looking for.
It is also easy to fix objects in #BlenderBIM, for example replacing transparent curtain wall elements with windows, make elements non room bounding and edit geometries.
Do you want to learn more about this I will have a course, Efficient BIM import to IDA ICE without IFC next week. The name is a bit misleading because you can use IFC in the presented workflow, but I will also show a number of other methods, for example #Speckle, #Pollination and custom scripting. The focus will be Revit, IDA ICE and Blender but the process is valid for most BIM- and BEM-tools.
