This November, BII's portfolio of start-ups has been busy! The start-ups have raised investments, won awards, spoken at conferences and podcasts, and even changed CEOs and Board members.

At the start of November, one of the first companies in BII's start-up acceleration programs, Octarine Bio , announced that it had raised GBP 4.35M in a recent funding round led by Unconventional Ventures alongside óskare Capital and The Footprint Firm with participation from dsm-firmenich Venturing . Among other media outlets, the news story was published by Silicon Canals . With its synthetic biology platform, Octarine Bio develops sustainable, nature-based dyes for the textile industry.

On November 1st, Kariya Pharmaceuticals announced that it had received regulatory approval from the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency for the Clinical Trial Authorization of its lead Parkinson's drug program KP405. The story was published by MedWatch.

In mid-November, Hervolution Therapeutics shared in MedWatch that it is bringing on a new CEO, Robert Coleman, who has been the Co-Founder and CEO of Codagenix since 2011. Robert, who raised a series B round of USD 25M for Codagenix last year, promises to do what is required to raise money for "a new paradigm for oncology."

On November 8th, MedWatch shared the news of the launch of Neurophase, a new Bio Studio project seeking to explore if biomolecular condensates are the key to unlocking novel ways to treat brain diseases and disorders. The project, which is a collaboration between BII and K?benhavns Universitet - University of Copenhagen , has received a grant of EUR 3M from BII over three years in addition to a grant of approximately EUR 2,7M from Lundbeckfonden / Lundbeck Foundation .

The women's health start-up FimmCyte announced on November 7th that it is appointing Dr. Markus Kalousek as Chairperson of its Board of Directors. Fimmcyte was recently submitted to BII's Venture House program with joint support from BII and Ferring Pharmaceuticals through our Reproductive Medicine and Maternal Health Track.


On November 20th, AlphaGalileo Ltd shared the news of the launch of Amalus Therapeutics , a spin-out from Universiteit Gent and part of the most recent cohort in BII's Venture Lab program. Amalus Therapeutics is converting the power of selective fibroblast modulation into transformative therapeutics for cancer.


Professor Hugo Vankelecom, who leads the recently announced Bio Studio project CurE-me, gave an interview to Drug Target Review that came out on November 14th. The interview explores the project’s goals, challenges, and the vital role the organoid biobank and BII play in advancing the fight against endometriosis. CurE-me was also featured in BioVox to discuss the project's ambitions.

Food-tech start-up and current Venture House participant Nordic Virtual Pastures was featured in Jyllands-Posten on November 11th to explain why it takes so long to get cultivated meat out of the lab and into the supermarkets. In the feature, Founder and CEO Jan Dideriksen also shares the mission and vision of Nordic Virtual Pastures.

Venture Lab alumni MATR Foods was featured in LandbrugsAvisen on November 22nd after speaking at ?kologikongres 2023 - a two-day ecology-focused conference hosted by ?kologisk Landsforening - the day before. In the feature, CEO Randi Wahlsteen shares how she and her team have developed "the next generation of plant-based food."

On November 23rd, Venture Lab alumni Upstream Foods was featured in the BioInnovation Spotlight podcast produced by LifeScience ORG . In the episode, Molecular Microbiologist and Podcast Producer Dr David Kirk spoke with CEO and Co-Founder Kianti Figler about her journey from biology to food technology, why she founded the company, and the challenges she faces as a founder today.



Following its recent announcement of a EUR 6.7M investment, Bioomix got even more to celebrate as they won the 'Odin Award' at the entrepreneurship festival 'Ignite Odense.
