When I speak to most of my clients during data center design requirements workshop, I realized 9 out of 10 will have misperception about Tier 4* requirement for either Uptime Tier Standard or TIA-942 Rated Standard.
Here is the list of Top 10 most mistaken perception about Tier-4 data centre design requirement.
1. Uptime Tier standard and TIA-942 Rated standard are identical.
2. You need 2 different utility companies to supply power to the data centre.
3. Tier-4 Data centre must be in a purpose-build data centre building and compound.
4. Data centre building should not be shared with other tenants for office purpose.
5. All components in the data centre must be redundant (2N).
6. Tier-4 data centre can withstand many faults without interruption.
7. Tier 4 data centre is the best.
8. Tier-4 is more efficient than Tier 3, 2 and 1.
9. To achieve continuous cooling, you must have 2 sets on computer room cooling units (2N) ie System A Group and System B Group.
10. Data centre must have raised flooring systems.
Do share what other misperceptions that you have. Stay tune and follow thru for more update on data centre design in upcoming sharing session.
* I specifically do not use neither Tier-IV nor Rated-4 terminology for this purpose the that not to confuse the reader further.
