Last week, one of my connections asked this on the AMA form: What strategies do you use to stay motivated when facing tough problems or when acknowledgment feels lacking?

I get it—we all crave acknowledgment for our work or feel low when problems seem too tough. Here's what works for me:

Zoom out and focus on the bigger picture. If you're passionate about something, nothing is more motivating than the impact you create. Reconnect with your purpose. Remind yourself why you started—your goals, values, or the change you want to make.

Another common hurdle is planning too big. Dreaming big is great, but without actionable steps, you can't move forward. Break big goals into smaller, actionable tasks. When you tackle small goals, progress feels achievable. That progress pushes you to do more.

Here are some tips to stay motivated when you're stuck or feeling unseen:

  1. Celebrate small wins. Acknowledge your efforts and reward yourself.
  2. Challenge yourself. Once you break down tasks, push yourself to conquer them.
  3. Find good peers/mentors. Seek advice from mentors—their experience can guide you and help you avoid mistakes.
  4. Set the right environment. Create a space that helps you focus and stay productive.
  5. Reflect and adjust. Review your progress weekly or monthly. Identify what’s working, what isn’t, and change your approach if needed.

Remember, motivation comes and goes. Discipline and passion will keep you going during tough times. Over time, the progress you make and the process you follow will bring their own kind of acknowledgment.
