If you are anything like me, you have probably spent your whole life thinking, assuming or unconsciously believing that your most intelligent organ is your brain.
For the last few years I have found myself wondering if the brain is indeed where our intelligence resides, then how is it that I when I am driving, I can get from one place to another without much conscious thought and many times without even tapping into my memory?
If the brain is indeed where most of our intelligence resides, then how is it that so many times we forget our internet banking passwords or ATM pins, yet when we are in front of a keyboard or a keypad, our fingers are magically able to figure out what numbers to punch in?
If the brain is indeed where most of our intelligence resides, why do so many intellectually trained professionals feel unhappy, unfulfilled and miserable despite their so called 'sensible' career and financial decisions?
If the brain is indeed where most of our intelligence resides, why do children gravitate towards doing things that they are naturally gifted and talented in, even though their conscious faculties and cognitive abilities aren't fully developed?
If the brain is indeed where most of our intelligence resides, why do well-researched investors give in to fear and greed and react emotionally to market movements even though history shows that despite volatility, financial markets can be very efficient and reliable in the long term?
If the brain is indeed where most of our intelligence resides, who do so many tertiary educated people lack creativity, emotional intelligence and social awareness?
Here is a question for us to consider:
Is it possible that we have been conditioned to place too much emphasis on developing our 'thinking' and not enough emphasis on developing our 'feelings?
Is it possible that if we treated our heart as the compass for our major life decisions, that we would lead ourselves to a more passionate, authentic, inspired and even a more successful life?
Is it time that we stop looking at the brain as the only compass for our direction in life and start listening to our heart to determine our purpose in life?
Is it time.................?

7 年Wow! I'm not sure where I sit on brain vs. heart...I feel they both deserve a respectful measure of consideration on the big decisions in life. However, something I couldn't agree MORE with, is that our brains have been given TOO MUCH credit/responsibility for being "where most of our intelligence resides". You've raised some valid points that demand attention. Thank you for the thought-provoking article.
