The biggest construction contracts awarded in August 2024

In a month marked by significant milestones, August 2024 saw developers across the Middle East pushing forward ambitious projects that reflect the region’s growing commitment to future-ready infrastructure.

With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and economic diversification, the latest construction contracts signal the industry’s ongoing momentum and set the stage for transformative developments in the months ahead.

Some companies that stood out this month include Dar, Zaha Hadid Architects, Arabian Pipes, SSH, Galfar, Larsen & Toubro, and more.

1.?Galfar: Ad Dhahirah water distribution network

Scope of work: Construction of water distribution networks, Design and Build Package

Value: $304 million

Oman’s Galfar Engineering & Contracting has been awarded a contract worth over $304 million (OMR117 million) for the construction of a water distribution network in the sultanate’s Ad Dhahirah governorate.

In an announcement to the Muscat Securities Market (MSX) on Monday, Galfar announced to shareholders that Nama Water Services (NAMA) has awarded the contract for the construction of water distribution networks in Ibri, Yanqul and Dank Wilayats, specifically the Design and Build Package 1 contract.

The letter of award was accepted on 26 August, and the project contract has an execution date of 44 months, or about three and a half years.

Galfar also shared the announcement on social media, thanking NAMA for the contract awarded.

5.?NMDC Group: Ruwais LNG Project

Scope of work: Crucial marine dredging working

Value: $200 million

NMDC Group has secured a contract worth more than $200 million from the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) for crucial marine dredging works in the pioneering Ruwais LNG Project.

The contract entails dredging operations, involving the removal of approximately 15 million cubic metres of material across a 5-kilometre channel with a 245-metre width.

NMDC will also install vital navigational aids, ensuring safe maritime access to the new LNG facility.

The LNG export facility is the first in the Middle East and Africa to run on clean energy, and its use of renewable energy-powered electric motors makes it one of the world’s lowest carbon-intensity LNG plants.

6.?Schindler Olayan: The Avenues – Riyadh

Scope of work: To supply 293 elevators, escalators, and moving walks

Schindler Group, a global leader in elevators, escalators, and related services, has announced that its Saudi division, Schindler Olayan, has secured a major contract to supply 293 elevators, escalators, and moving walks to The Avenues – Riyadh. This significant multi-purpose development spans over 1.8 million square metres.

Located in a prime area in the north of Riyadh, The Avenues – Riyadh will feature the largest commercial mall in the Middle East, covering an impressive 388,000 square metres. The development will also include five multi-purpose towers, housing hotels, residential apartments, and office spaces.

Developed by?Shomoul Holding , The Avenues – Riyadh masterfully combines traditional Salmani architecture with modern design elements. The complex has already earned the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the American Green Building Council.

10.?SSH: Nobu Hotel and Residences

Scope of work: Lead design consultant

Enevoria Development has appointed design consulting firm SSH as the lead design consultant for Nobu Hotel and Residences, located on Ras Al Khaimah’s Al Marjan Island.

Under the contract, SSH will take care of the complete design and engineering services, including concept design, architecture, and schematic design.

Interior design on the project is by Rockwell Group.

The five-star branded hotel and residences are set to blend modern luxury and Japanese tradition, spanning a built-up area of 70,000 square metres. In addition to the hotel, the project will feature two residential towers featuring 282 Nobu-branded residences ranging one- to four-bedroom apartments, as well as beachfront villas.
