The bigger message behind the KonMari Method
Like many I’ve been enjoying watching the new Netflix series “Tidying Up” with Marie Kondo.
I’ve also seen a few of the comments, interviews and discussion posts around the series … talking about sexism, wastage, etc…
But for me there’s a bigger message that I take out of every episode.
Gratitude.
I love the way Marie starts every job by thanking the house.
I love the way she tells us to thank our “things” for what they’ve given us before we throw them out or give them away.
I love the way there’s a spotlight on privilege but the message is often hidden inside the lessons about tidying.
The privilege we sometimes forget we have when we are able to buy new clothes, go out to lunch or even get our morning coffee.
The privilege of having a roof over our head in the first place and being able to have a shower and go to work on a Monday instead of being unhappy that we have to go to work.
This may be a bit heavy, but I believe it’s worth mentioning.
And it’s a lesson that’s worth remembering every day.

5 年Well put. Couldn’t agree more. It’s something we need to teach our children
