The Big Tiny Adventure Begins

The Big Tiny Adventure Begins

Let me introduce you to My Family; We are, my Husband Jeff; next, our Furbaby, Matilda; and of course, Myself, Briana. When I met Jeff a few years ago he swept Matilda and me off our feet. He is a genuinely kind man with many talents. Jeff had discovered Spur, TX on the internet shortly before meeting us ladies (spurfreedom.org). Jeff started dropping hints about tiny living very early into our courtship. Jeff had built a VERY tiny (160sq ft)... Tiny House. about 5 years prior to us meeting and lived in it for 2 years, off grid. He wanted to try it again! I told him that if we were going to do it, we would do it together... and… I had to have an actual flushing toilet! Jeff reassured me that Spur required flush toilets in all tiny houses. That information sealed the deal and we bought land in Spur, got engaged and married very soon after.

We are now approaching 2 years of marriage and about 1.5 years of construction. Nights, weekends, holidays, whenever we can make time, we work on ‘The Tiny.’ Jeff has put in much of the heavy lifting and the weight of the project has been a bit daunting. Keeping the cost of this project in mind... I’m always on the look-out for a DIY option or Thrift store bargain. I do my best working on supporting projects and acting as a third and fourth hand at times. I have even learned how to use power tools! Matilda has been our acting supervisor from the beginning.

Family, friendship, and community are very important to Jeff and I. I know that my Mother would have found this adventure to a new town very romantic. I am not under such illusions. Jeff and I know it will take time and effort to make our homestead in Spur, TX successful. We are excited to make our lives into what we want them to be and to be part of the community in Spur. Instead of letting life happen to us, we want the freedom to experience our lives, on our own terms.
