Big Rob retires
Experienced Centre Half Rob Jones, 37, who had success with Hibernian, Scunthorpe United, Sheffield Wednesday and Doncaster has decide to retire.
A late starter at non-league Gateshead, Rob moved into lower league football spending time with Stockport and Grimsby before moving on to Hibs in the SPL. He captained the Club and lifted the Scottish League Cup in 2007.
In 2009, Rob was transferred to Scunthorpe United’s breaking the Club’s record transfer fee. After helping Scunthorpe retain their Championship status, Rob moved on to Sheffield Wednesday where they gained promotion to the Championship.
Another move, this time to Doncaster Rovers, resulted in another promotion for the 2m tall centre back.
Rob left Doncaster after a stint as caretaker manager and joined Hartlepool United.
Since then, Rob has committed his free time to gaining further coaching awards and building on his previous experiences coaching Grimsby u12's, Hartlepool u15's and Doncaster u21's. He has attained the UEFA A Licence and is finishing off his UEFA A Youth Award.
Rob has been given the opportunity to further develop as a coach by RIASA (Richmond International Academic and Soccer Academy) based in Headingley, Leeds so he has decided to call time on his playing career.
The RIASA Soccer Academy delivers an English Football Experience for students from overseas who aim to attain a degree in International Business with Sports Management.
Rob hopes to pass on his wealth of experience to RIASA's students and hopes to develop future professional footballers.
