Big Question!

Big Question!

How does the agric policy under the NPP Administration is going to shape out?

Just months ago (pre election 2016) it seemed the only question agric players were debating about is the future of agriculture and food production in Ghana. Now there seems to be an unending line-up of policy issues that could impact agriculture in the near future.

The recent result of the 2016 election seems to have brought hope to producers and consumers at once.

The newly elected president had a lot to say about agriculture in his campaign. He wasn’t just talking on improving the sector with big words. He actually mentioned the most critical components to keep the sector alive and ensure future progress.

His selection of ministers, especially the minister for agriculture says it all.

In short, it seems like the negligence era of the sector is over and the newly elected policy makers are going to work over time to make that change happen ASAP.

So hold onto your hats; things are likely to get better.

In my opinion, the macro-economy and government policy are set to play a much larger role on the agricultural economy, starting 2017.

Indeed, many unknowns still exist.

While many are optimistic about the future, it's important to note that many of the unknowns and moving pieces can play out in unpredictable ways.

To be more directly, given the macro-economy and government policy unknowns, it is not so difficult to understand the positive impacts it might have on agriculture in Ghana.

Furthermore, I’d dare to conclude - at this point, that these to-be determined factors will have unequivocally positive impact on the Ghanaian agriculture sector.

All is left for us to do is to cross our fingers and pray for the continues attention and care, this government will have for the industry we all cherish in Ghana.

My personal wish is to have such a successful farming industry, that will attract more of the youth in to a smart, profitable sector.
