The big picture for corporate innovation

Any large organization has 40+ different handles to adjust their corporate innovation, transformation efforts. In the image, you can see some of them based on the below 9 main categories.

As you look into your big picture for innovation and how to address this, you should ask yourself many questions including some like these:

# Which categories and handles are most relevant for our current situation?

# How do we start working with this??

# How do we build a strong foundation/platform for innovation??

# What does a long term plan look like?

# How do we get our executive team to be fully committed and personally involved in this?

Here are my 9 main categories:

  • Strategy
  • Leadership
  • Corporate culture (Don’t go for an innovation culture, that’s a trap!)
  • People
  • Organizational capabilities
  • Execution engines
  • Networks, ecosystems and partners
  • Customers, markets, competitors
  • Communication

We should always have in mind that all organizations are different. Thus, the key is to focus on the specific needs, challenges and opportunities of your organization.

Stefan Lindegaard the emphasis on organizational culture is a high priority for a complete pivot. If you don't change the culture, you can't expect your innovation initiatives to continue in a systematic way. That is why you should consider using the recently published ISO56002 Innovation Management System standard to guide you in the implementation.

Great Post. Most of the managements consulting just follow a fashion or follow a methodology in turn to say they are doing innovation.
