There’s lots of noise in the mainstream here in NZ right now as we all do our civic duty this weekend – and while we firmly believe in keeping ourselves OUT of the political convos... here's some musings on how the Big Pause of an election year seems to impact us business owners
It’s like the summer pause – the one where NZ seems to pack up for 8 weeks and head to the beach or the mall,( anywhere other than a spot where they have access to online banking to pay B2B service bills or make any big business decisions!)
And we’re spotting the same on the small* business landscape.
It can be hard to make progress when others in your ecosystem pause. We get it, we’ve been there too. And it feels like it’s going to last forever. But it won’t.
In the makeup of successful businesses and owners, what we** keep seeing is tenacity. Keeping going when things get tough, because as sure as night follows day – things are going to get tough at points along the way
You’re probably being bombarded with stories of overnight success or promises of an instant six figure income if you just follow these “simple steps”. ?I'm calling that horse poop for what it is. It doesn’t happen that way. Success, in whatever definition of success you’re in this biz game to create, takes time and takes work.
There are no pre prescribed formulas and no magic bullets.
And then you get the pauses like this one.
Guess what the answer is?
Get up, dust yourself off, and go again tomorrow (or, if not tomorrow, then next week).
Overnight success takes months, if not years of putting one step after the other.
Doing the same great thing repeatedly. Taking small incremental steps to being better. Planning, forecasting, experimenting, and trying again the next month. It takes showing up no matter how much you want to run away. It takes showing up even when others have paused. It especially means showing up when others are giving up. It takes investing time and money on business and personal growth. Falling and learning from failing.?Keeping going when you want to give up and being brave enough to ask for help when you need it.
All this? That’s called tenacity and success takes tenacity.
It’s just not as sexy, so it doesn’t get talked about as often.
So just keep going.
You will get there. We’re going to go and vote (don't care who you vote for, but PLEASE vote!!), and then the world will keep on going (until the big December pack up, but hey, at that point you can dust this email off, remind yourself of what we shared, and use it to get you through January!)?
?
Here’s to your tenacity you marvelous?human!?
PS -?if you want some company on your journey, know that you don’t have to do it alone – one of our memberships could be JUST what you need to boost your spirits as we close out the year, if you’d like help choosing which one, send me a message and let’s tee up a quick “find your fit” check to make it happen.?

*we disagree with 'small business' as a term in general, but apparently it helps you orient towards what we’re talking about, but a bit like the latest Xero ads say – we won’t call you small! Your dreams are big and so too is your courage, so you’re a business owner – let’s chuck out the small shall we??
**we here is not used as a royal we like some folk do to make themselves sound like a bigger business than they actually are. If you didn't get the memo, YST is a team sport - the "we" here references that it's me and Robyn Brown who help you make your business a whole lot better

1 年Big indeed. Be great if we have a decisive result instead of waiting weeks for negotiations.
